Read To Live is a newsletter and podcast about people whose lives were changed through books. My life has certainly changed for the better after reading some remarkable books, and I want to experience that change again. This time, I'll document what happens when I read the same book 100 times in a row.
The book is Zion Earth Zen Sky by Charles Shiro Inouye.
I chose this book because I have a longstanding appreciation for Zen Buddhism and benefit from it immensely. I’m also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the true church. Zion Earth Zen Sky is about how the two traditions blend harmoniously for the author, and I’m looking to learn and grow from his wisdom and perspective.
So, why read the book 100 times? Isn’t once sufficient?
I want lasting change. That means reading like my life depends on it, returning to the same book again and again until I unlock its deeper levels. Repetition reveals new things each time, and makes them permanent. I know this through regular study of the Book of Mormon and from re-reading The Greatest Salesman in the World.
These books changed my life. Now I want another transformative experience.
On the podcast, I interview others who have had life-changing experiences with books and explore how their transformations happened. I hope you’ll join us and get inspired, too.
